MASKING TAPES How to choose a suitable masking tape Masking tapes are used to make straight edges and protect the base against coating materials.Selection criteria: • width of the tape – you should know which tool you will use in the neighbouring area. If you use a small brush, a narrow, 19 mm tape will suffice. If you use a large roller, you should use a wider tape. • conformability – crepe tapes ensure excellent conformability and thus perfectly follow curves of complicated shapes. • material: » paper – the tapes are only suitable for indoor use. It is the cheapest category. » impregnated paper – quality tapes suitable mostly for indoor use. » grooved PVC – tapes of the highest quality with high UV stability, particularly useful for outdoor use. • quality of tapes » you must first decide, whether you want to bond the tape, paint the surface and immediately remove the tape. For this purpose, you can use basic types of tape without UV stability. We recommend removing all such tapes immediately after application of the paint to prevent damage of the surface by traces of adhesive or tearing off part of the base. IMPORTANT: do not expose the tape to direct sunlight. » use tapes with UV stability for prolonged indoor and outdoor applications. They can be exposed to direct sunlight for certain time (refer to the manual of each tape about UV stability). |
